So why is Bad Company 2 popular?

Based on the recommendations of several friends I purchased Battlefield: Bad Company 2. There were tons of reviews saying it was a great game and MW2 was nothing compared to it. So wtf were these people smoking and how can I get some... This game has shit gameplay that falls behind the previous Battlefield games. For all the trash talking that this game is better than MW2, I'm wondering what's better.

It's got a better physics engine, bigger maps, vehicles and has environment destruction, but nothing feels like an improvement. The graphics are years behind and the multiplayer perks such as vehicles and large maps fall far behind Battle Field 2. Please let me know why people like this game so I don't feel like I just threw away $40.

You can't Lightweight+Marathon+Commando in BFBC2.
No stupid kill streak shit.
Vehicles.
No one man armies.
Team work matters.

They both are the greatest shooters of all time atm. BFBC2 is so much like the previous BF2142 and BF2 except the fact that you cannot prone or be a commander. MW2 is based on a random player search and runs off the hosts isp instead of an actual server list.

I really disliked bad company 2 until I actually played it online and started to unlock stuff. I find it quite enjoyable now :)

I can agree with that much. Ironically the single player mode, which I rarely even bother playing, made me enjoy multiplayer more. It's weird switching between MW2 and BC2 though since everything is almost the same... I can't tell you how many times I've dropped a grenade trying to pick up a new weapon kit. BC2 actually made me go back to BF2, which I had forgotten how great of a game it is.

Just gotta play it. T1 weapons for all kits suck (especially for Engineers). It's like once you get past that hill of terrible non lethal weapons the game becomes amazing.
