I would have asked real life friends, but 99% of them are not gamers.

Anyways, I'm getting someone a birthday gift and I'm debating between a PSP or the new DSi XL's that will be out soon. I have a PSP slim and a DS and I prefer DS games more.

He likes games like Resident Evil, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Castlevania, Mario, other RPG/Strategy games. I think he might also like some fighting/FPS games but not as much...

He has a really old DS, from many years ago. It was one of the first dual screen stylus ones that came out. So as a dude would you prefer a totally new system? (aka PSP) or would you still wag your tail if you got a pretty nice upgrade to an old system? (aka DS)

I really like my PSP, get him one and then the Monster Hunter game. He'll geek out for days and you'll end up never seeing him because he's spending 600 hours playing monster hunter 2.

How does he like his current system?

Does he usually stick to the same brand for his gaming?
I personally was a loyal Nintendo player from NES straight up to the Gamecube (Wii wasn't my thing).

If he likes the DS, and he tends to buy Nintendo a lot, then the new DS is the way to go. If he doesn't really care just bought the DS on a whim at the time, and the PSP has more of the games he likes, then I'd go that way.

He likes his DS a lot. As far as loyalty goes he has a PS3 and a Wii. He lacks the time to actually sit down and game on a console nowadays.

Portable gaming is the best bet. So far it seems that both consoles have the type of games he likes... except the PSP doesn't have mario, etc.

Ahhh I'm so torn, at least I have a few weeks to think about it.

Wow the new DS looks sweet... thinking of getting one my self now. Personally though Gameboy/Handheld Nintendo systems have always been my favorite. Have everyone made. Even the ones that are basically the same thing just have like a back lit screen or something added (aka the SP).

TLDR I'd go w/ the DS.

Edit: Not sure if you can play GBA games on it, kinda fail if you can't though. Thats why I never got the DSi.

Yeah I have been leaning towards the DS from the start but I dont know if he'd be all like "Oh a DS? I have an old one" I personally love upgrades.

so that dude doesn't research the system he wanted and is crying about it. Pretty much everything ever said about the Go said its crap. Knowing that the new PS3's are not completely backwards compatible would make me want to check to see if the older PSP games could be played on the PSP Go.

I still like the PSP better, and I have both hand helds.

The Castlevanias, Zeldas, Kingdom Hearts, Marios, and Pokemons on the DS are awesome. I would prefer the DSi XL! Too bad though it doesnt have a GBA slot.

If he has a DS already, you should get him a new system for a wider variety of games!

He has: http://www.topnews.in/files/Nintendo-DS.jpg

Anyways, I got him the DSi. I know he loves his DS a lot and I enclosed a gift recite in case he wants to swing the other way. Idk what kinda games he'd like on the PSP but I do know what he likes on the DS.

Ah ya the DSi XL is a huge upgrade from that 6year old version. Can I have one too? I need to replace my DS lite lol.
